Mid Wales walking at its best

Mid Wales offers some of the finest walking in the United Kingdom and Rhayader is at the very centre of some of the most scenic and interesting. With the Elan and Wye and Severn valleys on the doorstep, our guided walks range from easy valley walks, moderately challenging walks involving some uphill sections and more sustained walks involving several sections of uphill work. Being in Wales you can't avoid the hills! However we do plan our walks to suit your level of fitness and to take in the most scenic parts of the area.

Walking is the one activity that we find almost impossible to provide all the equipment for. We provide equipment and clothing advice here and although we do have one or two pairs of boots for emergencies, we do advise you have your own. We can supply you with a day sac suitable for carrying your waterproofs and spare clothing in and if you do not have a suitable waterproof we always have one or two spare. Equipment such as socks, woolly hat and other clothing must be brought with you.

Amongst our favourite walks is the 'Source of the River Severn Trail', a superb walk that begins in the Haffren Forest and takes you to the very source of the mighty River Severn. The last bit can be a bit boggy but the views are fabulous. From there it is also possible to reach the summit of Pen Pumlumon Arwystli (741m) where the views are quite staggering and well worth the extra effort.

We also enjoy a number of walks in and around the lovely Elan Valley, often called the Lake District of Wales. Even in the height of Summer this valley does not suffer from an over population of visitors making it an ideal location for 'getting away from it'.
